I was looking for a Jack Straw and a Box o' Rain for this show and the boys delivered....a Jack Straw opener and a Box o' encore! What a way to start a five show run!
If i remember correctly, it was blazing hot and no shade. Still glad I went, wouldn't trade it for anything.
A stupid security guard broke my finger at this show! He grabbed my hand and told me to stop walking so quickly (I had to pee REALLY BAD after standing in line for hours and finally getting in the gate- yes, I sued and now I call it my 20,000 dollar finger) but the show was good, went back for more the next day, never thinking this would be the last time I would ever see Jerry. Finally made it to the Doc the day after the second show, he came in singing Shakedown Street...he was at the shows, too...we are everywhere!
Wow! I was making a front-of-the board audience recording for most of the show when a really hot bikini-clad chick working for GD security started looking me up and down. Eventually she grabbed me and started pulling me towards the side of the stage where she took me to some 300 pound dudes who took my tapes and kicked me out. Chuck Berry was great and I saw Jerry watching his every move from behind some shipping containers. I don't really care that I got kicked out because I made friends with the ticket checker at the east gate who let me back in. NANANANA!!!!!!
phil zone did it right 4 me ...out side showers were sweet....those bikers on the porch by the - only house around - behind the main stage - was a sight .....my rochester crew'n my 1st show 2gether.....where u at!
It was hot, and the show was enjoyable but there was an unmistakable feeling of darkness in the air. Something was not right. The crowd grew restless and frustrated, at least where I was standing. Perhaps it had something to do with MONDO the security guard who had been menacing people along the last tour but perhaps he was just as much a victim of the dark group mindset that was growing within the crowd as the end grew near. We all knew but didn't speak it. It was too horrible to speak.
The Portland Police were the worst. High up on horses, yelling, talking down, screaming orders to people that they knew would be impossible to follow. They were tryng to incite violence and they very nearly did at one point. It caused the crowd to knock down a temporary fence because they were forcing people through in two directions through a small opening in the fence. People were injured. My heart was injured.
I sold my ticket for the next days show and hoped I was wrong about Jerry, that I would see him again. I wasn't.
Perhaps in the next life.......
Peace and Blessings
Yep, It was hot, the show was mellow, but killer, some heads were as rude as some of the security. I didn't get it, but once I got inside everything was beautiful. Gumby was trippin' around. I enjoyed the shit out of the show, maybe because I hadn't seen one for awhile, and was so pleased the boys followed me to Portland, for the first time in some time from what I understand. Chuck was cool, and the Dead were cooler!
Locations
A crappy place for a show, but a great show none the less.
