Have a bootleg video of this show. Not the greatest quality, but fun. Would love a CD. Nothing better than Brent on Hey Jude. By the way, Hey Jude was in full here, no reprise to begin.
Tough finding psych's at Canada Show's. Look hard and you will find. That was then.
Holy mackerel, what an epic 'Scarlet>Fire.' Listening to the transition still gives me goosebumps. It's so seamless, so flowing and powerful...it gives new meaning to 'groupmind,' even for the boys. And Jerry's blistering leads during 'Fire' will just melt your ears off-he really goes all out with some cool distortion. If you don't have a copy of this one, you can still hear the 'Scarlet>Fire' on the So Many Roads box set. And the 'Other One' was incredible, too, with Bobby doing some amazing "hammer on/pull off" stuff towards the end. Afterwards, a bunch of us danced all over again to the entire show in our hotel's conference room after a taper was kind enough to play his DAT for us. The above post about psychs being hard to find up there is funny, 'cause I planned ahead and primed my apple juice and must've looked real obvious, because people kept coming up to me on my way in to the show...
I forgot to mention the killer Truckin' jam. After Jerry left the stage, Bobby, Phil and Brent continued playing to form a unique jam that had a lot of momentum. Brent delivered some fantastic ivory tickling during this segment as it wound its way into a wonderfully weird Drums. Nobody minded that Brent forgot the words to the full 'Hey Jude'...everybody went nuts anyway.
Jerry broke a string during the jam near the end of Hey Jude and kept playing.
As to finding stuff, liquid in juice worked.
A friend of mine wanted to smoke and was jonesing and stepped inside the
Copp's and took off his shoes and IMMEDIATELY felt what he thought was gum sticking to his foot.
But it was black and sticky and the perfect groundscore for him.
I forgot to mention - somewhere in the 80s I saw Brent sing with Go Ahead (the band he and sometimes Bill were in briefly) Hey Jude -> Dear Mr. F -> Jude Finale in Philadelphia and he got the words right. When I heard that I wondered why the Dead didn't do Hey Jude in full with Brent.
I got my wish this night.
Incidentally, Go Ahead also did a killer Medicated Goo (the Traffic song).
This was a killer show! Psychs were hard to find, but I managed to smuggle some smoke across. It was a life saver. Some dude in our hotel heard I had had some and traded some liquid for a little. It was f ing fantastic! Me and all my friends were flyin all night and the Holiday Inn was total chaos! It was a great show beginning to end and the streets of Hamilton were crazy all night. I was crying during Beleive it or not. So beautiful. This was exactly what you want from a dead experience!! I'll never forget it!
This was my first show! I'll never forget it. Killer Scalet-Fire. When they dropped Jude-Fantasy-Jude I remember everyone looking around like: "What? Holy crap!" Too awesome. Blazing Sugar Mags to close it out too.
This is an excellent show. The Scarlet>Fire is off the hook and the Hey Jude>Dear Mr. Fantasy>Hey Jude was teriffic and a bit unique compared to others I have heard and seen. Lots of good stuff in the first set as well. Rock on.
This was my first show with less then 20,000 people and yes the psychs were hard to find but right before the show started in the back corner of the parking lot,my savior, thanks. We all we were jammed in that small parking lot across the street. I remember people hugging the mounties because they were GREAT as long as it stayed in the parking lot; Me and my friend Dan A. sold grilled cheese or gave them away They said there was only 1arrest. Hamilton is beautiful and so are the people
