Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1972, 1973 and 1989.
Our first stop this week is on 11/15/72 in Oklahoma City, where we have a nice batch of typical 1972 first set material featuring Bird Song, Jack Straw, Candyman, Big River, Sugaree, El Paso, Box Of Rain, Deal, Cumberland Blues.
Next up is music from 9/17/73 in Syracuse, NY, where we have more first set material, including Sugaree, Mexicali Blues, Loser, Looks Like Rain, Row Jimmy. This was the tour that featured horns occasionally in the second set, which although interesting at times, was thankfully a short-lived experiment.
Lastly this week we have the entire first set from 10/12/89 in New Jersey, the second of a five night run at the Meadowlands. From this show, we have Hell In A Bucket>Sugaree, Blow Away, Tennessee Jed, Queen Jane Approximately, Bird Song, Jack Straw. Our apologies for the three versions of Sugaree this week, as well as a couple of Bird Songs and Jack Straws.

With the Spring '90 box having been an absolute joy to listen too, and the choices for Jam of the Week fom 10/11/89 and this set from 10/12/89 are what keeps me coming back for more.
Love the three show configuration - however, I must say I'd love it even more if a by-month for the rest of '72 series of boxes went in to the works! Whoa!!! Greedy SOB I am, what? BTW - I closed my windows for the second disc/meat of 9/15. It's not so bad,
really - in fact, excellent! How ever it is to be done, I'll be a happy camper - Go PTB!

9/19, like 9/15, as I recall, is a difficult to listen to AUD. How about a mini-box of 9/15, 9/16 and 9/19?
I raise up a Stone IPA. Here's to Sherbear....Willd, Witty, and Wonderous! We always enjoy your art and comments. About the '72 Fall stuff, just received DP 11 yesterday and exclaimed, "This is the best show I've heard!" I don't have that many '72 shows, but do agree: Springfield Creamery is epic (aching to see this mysterious VHS) and 9/27 was well worth the 30 bucks I spent on it. Although, I miss Pigpen, his sound, soul and unique chemistry he brought to the table, in this era, the song selection and Jerry's voice are the highlights of fall '72. Still, there are many shows I should hear within the Summer '72 to Fall '73 to completely grasp this evolution of the band.

I don't think there is ever a necessity to apologize for too many Sugarees. I believe that phrase is an oxymoron.
I agree whole-heartedly about the need for additional releases of the fall 1972 tour. The St Louis shows were awesome but so were many others from that period. It seems that a revival of the Download series would be a good vehicle if there are great shows in the vault that perhaps don't live up to the sound quality deemed necessary for a Dave's Pick or Boxed set release.
In whatever form, more fall 72 would be indeed welcome.

Speaking of Fall '72 AUD's which I would love to hear in official SBD release: 11/13/72 Kansas City. If you have not heard this yet, well, much of the AUD is kinda painful, lots of patches etc., BUT it is well worth a listen - a monumental show. Anyway, if it is available in the Vault in SBD (anyone know?) the Dark Star > Dew in this show would leap to the top of many "best of" lists.
Likewise, the 11/17/72 Wichita show is available in a so-so SBD, an official release would be so sweet. If KC is a loosy-jazzy space fest, Wichita is a balls-out rockfest. Something about these November midwest shows. Now THAT is a box I would buy. ("Cold Rain and Snow: Midwest, Fall '72")
