Tapers Section By David Lemieux

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have tunes covering seven years of Grateful Dead history, 1977-1984.

Our first stop this week is the first night of a three night run in Passaic, NJ, on 4/25/77, and of likely greater interest, the third show on one of the best tours in Grateful Dead history. From that show, we have the end of the first set: Lazy Lightning>Supplication, Ship of Fools, Estimated Prophet, Brown-Eyed Women, The Music Never Stopped.

Next up is music from the end of the show on 7/7/81 in Kanasa City, featuring Truckin'>GDTRFB>Black Peter>I Need A Miracle>Good Lovin'.

Lastly this week is the entire first set from 7/22/84 in Ventura, CA, a beautiful sea-side venue. From that show, we have Dancing In The Street > Bertha; My Brother Esau; Loser; Cassidy ; Ramble On Rose ; Hell In A Bucket > Keep Your Day Job.

Be sure to come back next week for more tunes from the vault.

Yeah, where's the link. I was there and would love to see that! Peter Rowan's hat looked inordinately large to me that day... So much fun!! Day Job!

I just found something on youtube y'all might want to check out

a bunch of color film from the 8/28/82 Veneta show. It has a soundtrack of selections from that show.

Nostalgia? Wistfulness? Sentimentality? Call it what you will, I REALLY wish I could "be there now".

I realize it's 2012...but still...gone are the days.

I am glad they happened.

blurb in new Rolling Stone

It states that Owsley's tape collection will soon be released. Various bands, with the GD at the vanguard.

Looking forward to THAT.

Hopefully, the story is not a prank(ster).

GD94

I had a GREAT time in Eugene that year. 6/17 and 6/19 were especially worthy. Now, 6/25 sucked because of the show itself and the HOT Nevada desert, but 6/26 is a great show (I didn't attend that one, though.)

10/14 has a great S>F.

I bet in 10 years, people will have a better feeling for GD94.
