Anyone ever hear the rumor that Jerry Garcia was a prophet and that the music of the Dead was related to his calling?

Well, if Clapton was God, then Jerry Garcia was the second coming of Jesus :)
I heard the rumor at a show in the late eighties that Jerry was a prophet who was using the music to do the work of his calling. Has anyone else heard anything about this? Anyone?
