Jerry Garcia, State Fairgrounds, Des Moines, IA
Jerry appears to be enjoying himself here. Archive photos go well with this weeks Taper's Section offering of a crazy Playin' In The Band from this show.
A legendary show for Iowa Deadheads. A smiling Jerry to give us smiles. Thank you still after all these years.
If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.
(I misremembered it as a Mars Hotel sweatshirt.) Mars Hotel was their new album, not quite out yet on 1-16-74. That was a day of firsts: first Grateful Dead show, that first Scarlet Begonias, China Cat Sunflower> I Know You Rider, my first Playin', first Truckin', well my first...., that is the day that the veil was lifted. That show is "what got me on the bus".
What a delight that day was. And it still reverberates!
You all know what I mean!!!!!
I meant 6-16-74. Just got too jazzed seeing that great shot of Jerry and having a little "Billy Pilgrim" moment as I moved back in time.
I believe it says 'Marin Academy.'
at that show, my eyes saw Martian Academy. I must have been in a different state (Iowa) of mind at that point. Surplus dopamine production and domino synapse action. The Dead really set the table " one afternoon long ago".
